The XOOPS development team is pleased to announce the release of XOOPS 2.3.0 Alpha.

The objective of XOOPS 2.3 releases is to merge the two existent branches of 2.0 and 2.2 and to build a bridge towards our next generation of system XOOPS 3.0.

With XOOPS 2.3 releases, users will be able to learn some of new features that will be available in XOOPS 3.0, while developers can understand better the direction of XOOPS development, and designers can learn what features will be supported in the future.

Both backward and forward compatibility will be guaranteed as much as possible. Modules written for 2.0.* and 2.2.* will work with 2.3; applications developed for 2.3 will be compatible with XOOPS 3.0 automatically.

Developers are encouraged to write their application modules on XOOPS 2.3 so they can incorporate some of the new features and ensure easy migration to XOOPS 3.0.

NovaSmart Technology proudly announce Article Management System (AMS) 2.42 Final.

This release considered stable and can be used in production environment.

What Is AMS

AMS is a highly modified version of the News 1.2 for Xoops, and adds a huge amount of features to give the webmasters a lot more control over their content while still maintaining an easy to understand and use interface. AMS is highly scalable, and is geared towards performance, and as such is well suited to large article repositories that attract high amounts of users.

History

Development of AMS started by it-hq.org before hand over to NovaSmart Technology later on.

The motivation behind AMS development is to produce Article management which is specially optimized for speed and ease the admin/article contributor job. Each feature added with performance in mind.

As a result, AMS is the best balance between good features and performance for large articles website compared to other XOOPS article modules. Read the detail study here

AMS actively develop by it-hq.org until 2005 before abandon. The development of AMS only takeover by NovaSmart and actively develop there start from middle 2007.

Features

Koivi WYSIWYG editor integration : Your choice of using the default Xoops editor or Koivi editor selectable via AMS preferences. When using koivi editor also has a separate area for the article description as well as the main area for putting your article, so there is no need for use of the [extend] tag anymore.

Advanced Spotlight management : Choose your AMS spotlight block layout from three different template layouts, and add unlimited spotlight blocks with the option to display article mini stats including total articles, total article reads and total article comments. The all new spotlight block administration area allows you to configure exactly how and where to display your AMS spotlight item. From here you can add new spotlight items, selecting the latest article, the latest article in a topic, a specific article, or use the custom setting to display an image or banner using straight HTML code. You can also set things such as what image to display, wether to use an auto or manual teaser, how many characters the auto teaser should display, what text a manual teaser should contain, whether to display the spotlight item in the spotlight block or not, and item weighting where the lowest weighted item is treated as the main spotlight item.

Complete migration and upgrade script : This script enables you to migrate all content, permissions and comments from all presently released version of the News module. It also enables you to upgrade from AMS 2.2.

Nearly four years ago I downloaded Xoops for the first time and immediately fell in love with this CMS. It's easy to setup, easy to use, and very versatile.

Almost two years ago I posted this article showing how the CMS could be used to create and manage an online gaming team.

Now we're 100 gamers strong and have moved from BornSlacker.com to SGN (Slacker Gaming Network) we're partnered with several other gaming sites including the multipayernetwork.com.

We're happy to call this new site our home and even happier with how xoops has worked for us over the years.

For most users of XOOPS, using the standard XOOPS Text Editor is not something they enjoy, especially when they are beginners. TinyMCE is more user friendly, so this tutorial will show the way to install it as a replacement of the default editor of XOOPS

1) Download the TinyMCE files from here

2) Having done so, copy the content of the folder to your main XOOPS directory.

3) Now we need to enable the TinyMCE editor

BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE, PLEASE BACKUP THE FILE:

This is to announce that starting with XOOPS 3.0, we'll be supporting exclusively PHP 5.2 and up.

The XOOPS 2.3 will be our last release series supporting PHP4.

There are several reasons for doing this:

I always have problem with the text in the description area of xcgal module, if you write a long description and do not take care of the breal lines your ouput text will result in a long text line, so I modify the template xcgal_display.html and around the line #29 look for a code like this:

Xcgal users will be familiar with the "Upload more pictures" function which allows up to four pictures to be uploaded in one go and will know about xcgal's "click on a keyword" search function which locates all pictures having the chosen keyword. Keywords are therefore a really important tool for xcgal users.

Unfortunately, users will also know that keywords cannot be entered for pictures uploaded using the "Upload more pictures" function - they can only be added by editing the picture later.

...... until now

I've amended two xcgal files (db_input.php and xcgal_uploadmore.html) to allow keywords to be entered using the "Upload more pictures" function and the time of upload.

I've packed the amended files and their (renamed originals - it will be obvious!!) into this zip file.

To be honest, I would never know that they are made in XOOPS, because they look so un-XOOPS

But exactly because of that, they are a true inspiration for XOOPS developers to test the limits in their designs and creativity, and go beyond the typical boxy look and feel.

XOOPS Norway, the Website providing support for Norwegian users of XOOPS has been reopened with an updated look and improved structure.

Rune and earplane did a great job bringing the Website up to date, and supporting Norwegian users in the past.

Not everybody speaks English well enough to take advantage of our main site here, therefore it is so important to have these local support sites. Arabxoops are pleased to announce the launch of www.islamic-call.net, a new website featuring news, events and publications of the world islamic call society ( WICS ).



Due to the fact that WICS is an international society, the website content has to be available in several languages. The website content is actually available in arabic, english, french, spanish and housa ( african language ).

Arabic interface is completed now and other interfaces are under construction.



Varity of modules are mainly used in our website, it involve: news, smartsection, mastop_go2, extcal, booklists and addresses module. Moreover, there are two of the major modules made by arabxoops: xsgal ( simple gallery based on lightbox effect ) and rased ( who is online with the country flags ) are applied too.

WF-Channel V2.02

This is a mini bug fix release. It deals with two issues that came to light after the last release and were important enough to issue this release so quickly.

1. XoopsEditor Support: WF-Channel should support XoopsEditors fully now on all versions of Xoops.
2. Xoops Search: Now fully working. Fixed a bug that would prevent multiple word searches.
3. WF-Resource Check: Added code that will check the WF-Resource version. If this check fails, WF-Channel will display the reason for the failure. This is to help users who may forget to download the resource module.
4. Fixed Packaging: I have used a different tool to package the modules. If you still run into any problems, please contact us ASAP.

We urge all WF-Channel users to update to this version.

WF-Channel v2 has been written from the ground up, we feel more secure than any other previous versions and we aim to provide patches quickly if required. WF-Channel uses some caching techniques to help reduce strain on servers, like reducing SQL queries, PDF caching and more.

The admin area has been totally redesigned to make working easier and quicker than before. Every item within the admin area is only one click away, which means less work for you in the long run.

Many of the new features may not be apparent straight away, such as mass deletion, cloning and updating of pages and all from the main admin page. You will find this and many more changes like this within WF-Channel.

Every part of WF-Channel front-end is configurable, you choose to display which parts you want your customers to see.

Here is a list of some of the new items within WF-Channel:

14. Easily upgradeable from earlier versions,

After almost three years of inactivity, the WOX (World of XOOPS) Newsletter is BACK. Some of you are probably wondering why are we doing it. If it was dead for three years, why bringing it back to life? Well, because our users loved it. We just didn't execute it consistently - the break was not because of lack of interest, it was because we didn't deliver. So it's time to fix mistakes from the past and move forward. As we are breaking away from the past, we are evaluating what worked and what didn't, and we want to make sure that good ideas are not being lost.

While 2007 was quite eventful (see our first ever XOOPS Annual Report 2007), as you could see from our Plans for 2008, we have quite ambitious year ahead of us, and we'll need all the help from the whole XOOPS Community to make them reality. But we are confident that together, we'll be able to make it.
