Instant Zero is very happy to present you a new version of the Xoops News module. This new version, 1.63, introduces some bugs corrections and introduces a new functionality, Tags
How to upgrade ? Be sure to update the files on your server with the new one and update the module in the Xoops modules manager. after this, YOU MUST go in the module's preferences, at least one time, to re validate them.
Translations Some modifications were made to the translations. Consult the lang.diff file.

We are pleased to announce that Dirk Herrmann (dhsoft), the author of Simple-XOOPS and Administrator of XOOPS Germany, will be joining the XOOPS Core Team to become the Lead Maintainer for XOOPS 2.3, and then the Lead Developer for XOOPS 2.4.
Dirk is one of the most innovative developers in the XOOPS world and has received recently the "XOOPS Innovator" Award for his work on Simple-XOOPS. The XOOPS 2.4 will be based to a big extend on his Simple-XOOPS work.
This will result in some very exciting extensions to XOOPS, incl.:
* Multi-Site Hack (multiple domain / subdomain with one installation) * Multi-Language Hack (multiple languages with one installation) * URL rewriting hack, SEO optimization * An integrated updater for the core and modules * An installer for automatic installation of modules * Automatic check for Version Update of core and modules
In November Dirk became the main Administrator of XOOPS Germany, being responsible for support and overall management of the XOOPS German activities.
He is very well respected in the German community, and we are very excited about having Dirk on board, especially with all the the wealth of experience he is bringing to the project. You can read interview with Dirk here.
As a result of Dirk joining the Core Development Team, the current development plan for XOOPS 2.3.x is as follow:

XOOPS 2.4 will be the merger of XOOPS 2.3 and Simple-XOOPS
At the same time, DJ (phppp) will be leading XOOPS 3.0 development, which is planned to be released in the first half of 2009. Yes, XOOPS 3.0 is coming!

As you can see, the upcoming months will be very exciting for the XOOPS community, with a lot of work ahead of us. Therefore we would like to ask everybody to join the Team XOOPS and help us out in making this vision a reality! 2008 was (and definitely still is - as we have 30 more days to go ), a very exciting year for many of us, and will have a deeper analysis next month- but in the meantime please email us your impressions from 2008, and maybe we'll include them in the next WOX in January
November was very exciting for XOOPS - in the first seven weeks this new release 2.3.1 has been already downloaded more than 17,000 times, confirming the strong position of XOOPS in the CMS market, and the loyalty of our community. And we all very much appreciate it!
Security of XOOPS is always our #1 priority, and we'll always look after our users!!! So when we've been made aware of couple of vulnerabilities, we've immediately addressed them in XOOPS 2.3.2a - Security Release. In November our talented designers created again several nice new themes, - we had a lot new ones. As always, we salute all of XOOPS developers who develop new modules and themes and share them with the XOOPS Community!!! Work continues on Translating XOOPS 2.3.xinto as many languages as possible. As you can see from the list there, we still need help, so please volunteer! Other highlights of the month:
XOOPS Innovation Award - for people who create something very unique and innovative for XOOPS. This time the award goes to Dirk Herrmann (dhsoft) for his work on of Simple-XOOPS!!
XOOPSer of the Month Award: is given to XOOPS members who show extraordinary dedication to XOOPS, and go the extra mile for XOOPS. This month we would like to recognize: Julio Napurà Carlos (JulioNC), the Webmaster of XOOPS Spanish Community Website. It's the Webmasters of XOOPS local support sites who make the difference for all the people who don't speak English, and is sometimes their only entry to the wonderful world of XOOPS.
For the first time in history, Danish banks have gone insolvent, leaving thousands of customers which have lost their life savings due to poor counsulting and paperless deals, etc.
This site was made last week as a result of the Danish bank, Sparekassen Mors, going insolvent and everybody (1700) with "Garantbeviser", which was told that this was a risk free deposit turned out not to be so risk free and the total loss this 'union', Garantforeningen, is fighting to get back is about 11 million US dollars (conv. from Danish kr.)
In time we expect that the number of members will include almost all customers with these, mostly paperless and in many cases probably not legal deals, which we expect will lose their money the same way if the financial crisis escalades. As of now all banks have locked these accounts which is the actual basis for the banks existence so people can't touch their own money and have to wait for the bank to make it or not. But if everybody cashed in, the bank would fall for sure... what a situation!
Already it's been a few times in the media, both on TV and in several newspapers and we expect it, sadly enough, to figure there a lot more in the next weeks and months...
The site use many excellent modules and two themes for the moment, but i plan to add more as i love this function!
hello everybody im happpy to share with you another free theme : hosting theme -Width 922px - 3 columns it's available in arabic and english. you can download it from here, and the arabic version from www.arabxoops.com the zipped folder contains the theme , the font used and the photoshop files. the theme is easily editable and by changing the header you can totaly transform it to another one, and another subject.
timgno has announced a new module "Video by User" focused on YouTube videos.
The main feature is that you can update automatically YouTube videos from the YouTube user account, and thus keep track of the latest entries of your favorite friends, TV programs, or events. Instead of going to YouTube and check each user individually, you can update to the their latest videos directly from your XOOPS Website.
Another advantage over other similar modules is that "VideoByUser" does not store the info in a database and therefore occupies very little disk space.

Security is always the highest priority for XOOPS, and therefore we are releasing Security Updates as soon as we find a viable solution.
This is a temporary quick fix for Protector module, addressing potential local file inclusion vulnerability reported by DSRG. We hope that GIJOE, the author of Protector, will address this issue in future releases.
It is included in XOOPS 2.3.2a Security release, but if you're using Protector on XOOPS 2.0.x or 2.2.x, and your XOOPS_TRUST_PATH is located inside the Root, you are advised to upgrade to the version included in this package.
If your XOOPS_TRUST_PATH is outside of the Root (as you should!), you're not affected by this vulnerability.

Shoutbox is an XOOPS module that provides an interactive block and pop-up window for visitors to post and view messages. This release addresses most of the feature requests and bug reports we have received.
Features in this release include the addition of selectable guest avatars in preferences. You can also replace the avatars supplied with your own gif's if desired. Word censoring support has been added which ties directly to Word Censor Options system preferences. Refresh issues have all been resolved. Full page refresh only occurs when an incorrect captcha confirmation code entry is detected OR when Frameworks captcha class is selected. An additional option now appears in the popup window console that allows to visitor to enable/disable the Sound On New Message feature. Several minor defects were cleaned up which were causing notices to appear in the debug mode.
Instant Zero has released a new commercial module to manage your newsletters on your XOOPS site: SimpleNewsletter
SimpleNewsletter allows you to easily create and send newsletters (in text or in html) to the registered users of your site (whatever their number is) and it will enable them to read the past issues from your site.
Main features of the SimpleNewsletter module:
Unlike other newsletters modules, it is capable of sending large numbers of the same newsletter to your users through one of its blocks or via a CRON (a kind a planified task).
In its administrative part, the module allows you to create as many newsletters as you want, to stop and to resume shipments, to edit and remove newsletters, to manage subscriptions (adding or removing members, adding all Members of the site), to manage the content of a welcome and goodbye email when users unsubscribe. You can also manage the welcome of the index page.
On the user side, the module can show a list of the previous newsletters and to view the content of each one.
The module is integrated to the Xoops search, it has an RSS feed and has 4 blocks : - The list of the last subscribers - The last newsletters - A block allowing each user to know his state (subscribed or not) - A dedicated bloc to send newsletters if you don't have a CRON.
The XOOPS Development Team is pleased to announce the release of XOOPS 2.3.2
This release is solely for a couple of critical security fixes, including an XSS vulnerability reported by Digital Research Group, potential local file inclusion vulnerability reported by DSG, Autologin bug reported by Dylian and a backward bug in data synchronization reported by boy0917.
All XOOPS 2.3.x users are highly recommended to upgrade to this version ASAP.
In the last three weeks we had additional 5,000 downloads of the XOOPS 2.3.1.
As the chart below shows, we have a very steady interest in this new version (we've reached the 5,000 downloads mark in the first two weeks, so this is only 1 week extra for the latest 5,000). This is a good sign, as most of the time software downloads peak in the first few weeks and then go down.
We can also see the high interest in XOOPS by the download numbers of the XOOPS Uniform Server developed by Kris. In the last seven weeks it has been download over 3,200 times:

Arabxoops.com is happy to announce the release of Latest News block module ( version 0.72 ).
This module displays the latest news from the news module (1.62) in a block.
Features: 1. Can set the number of articles to display, using one or more columns. 2. Can choose to display the title, author, date, comments link, and other display settings. 3. Can customize image properties in all articles (i.e. width, height, position, borders). 4. Can customize the number of letters to truncate each news item, without cutting off any words midway. 5. Adding link and description to each image automatically for SEO. 6. Can limit by topic. 7. Can display featured news only. 8. Can clone unlimited blocks. 9. Can scrolling the articles.

Well, it seems like there are plenty of XOOPS books out there I was not aware of couple of these books, so I thought that I'll share the info with others. If you are aware of others, please let us know, so we can update this list.
Recently on an install of www.mydea.info it was noticed that something is unsantizing your environment, this is when you recieve error messages for systems that do not even exist in the process being done by the internet or coming to you from your DSL.
MYDEA (Media) Empowerment is a site by a collegue and friend Roy Smith, this was being worked on during the con-current processes I have found myself in my software development base.
This FC is in caution to you as it was repaired from what desantized your insanziation of the software in your own hosting provider, but remember you have the exact same copy that I am running, and yes I do zip them at the hosting local, for some reason also in this I have the old logo appear that was never even put on the internet..
The X-Center is and will remain quiet popular as I have had many enquires about the content module so I have revamped it and released it to you.

ShoutBox is an XOOPS module that provides an interactive block and pop-up window for visitors to post and view messages. In this release we redesigned the captcha feature so we are no longer employing a local copy of the captcha class. For captcha to function properly on sites with older versions of XOOPS such as 2.0.18.2, Frameworks 1.35 must also be installed. If you are running XOOPS 2.3.x and you have Frameworks 1.35 installed then you have the option of using Frameworks captcha OR core captcha selectable through module Preferences. Other features in this release are the addition of wordwrap setting and enable/disable display of avatars in the ShoutBox block. These options are specifically targeted for those who are displaying the ShoutBox in a very narrow column. By adjusting the wordwrap setting you can eliminate the appearance of the horizontal scrollbar and by disabling the display of avatars you have more room for text to be displayed.
This release has been tested on XOOPS 2.0.18.2 and XOOPS 2.3.0
As some of you might know, the XOOPS Project has previously set a XOOPS Foundation under the name "Stichting XOOPS" in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the "Stichting XOOPS" has been "missing in action", and our repeated calls to the former Chairman, Herko Coomans to hand over the Foundation and its assets back to the XOOPS project, didn't lead to any resolution. We have now entered into a legal conversation with Herko, still hoping that we'll resolve this issue in an "amicable way".
However, if this would not happen, we need to be prepared to initiate legal steps.
Therefore, the XOOPS Council has decided to set a "XOOPS Foundation" as a non-profit organization in the USA, which we did. This will allow us to have a legal entity that can represent and protect XOOPS interests.
The primary goal of the XOOPS Foundation is the promotion of the Open Source use and the development of the XOOPS Web Application System within the scope of the General Public License (GPL), as defined by the Free Software Foundation, and to be the legal representation of XOOPS.
Now that we have a legal entity, we can accept donations/contribution. If you like the XOOPS system, and would like to give something in return, you can make a donation to our new XOOPS Foundation! Simply use the PayPal payment system to transfer your donation to the Foundation account. Your donation will be used to promote and advance the use and development of the XOOPS.
We believe that we're have made major improvements in 2008, and thus set a strong foundation for years to come. We finally have merged the 2.0.x and 2.2.x branches into unified XOOPS version 2.3, and we're looking forward to the upcoming XOOPS 3 version.
